• Italian Soldiers in Afghanistan.

    by Lorenzo Tugnoli.

Most of the Italian troops are based in Herat, a city of north-western Afghanistan, close to the Iranian border. They will not experience much of the actual territory. Airborne to a far away planet, to a country that could be anywhere, they live in fortified bases and eat only food that comes from Italy. Professional soldiers and experts of the latest war technologies they leave the bases only flying choppers or driving armoured vehicles. They will see Afghanistan through the bullet-proof glasses or from the green images coming from the spy planes. On the other side, the Afghans still live in mud houses, with no electricity or running water. The enemies belongs to different centuries, they can not talk anymore.
